Ensuring Messages from DMS are Not Treated as SPAM by Your E-mail Program

Spam filters often catch e-mails sent from automated systems, including the DMS. Make sure that you can receive notifications from the DMS by configuring your spam filter to allow messages from execsec@avdc.org.

Instructions for some common e-mail programs follow:

Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007

  1. On the "Actions" menu, choose "Junk E-mail", and then "Junk E-mail Options..."
  2. Click the "Safe Senders" tab.
  3. Click the "Add..." button.
  4. Type "execsec@avdc.org" in the box, then click OK.
  5. Click OK in the Junk E-mail Options window.

Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. On the "Tools" menu, choose "Junk Mail Controls..."
  2. Make sure the "Do not mark messages as junk if the sender is in" checkbox is CHECKED.
  3. Make note of the selection next to that checkbox. It may say "Personal Address Book" or "Collected Addresses" or something else.
  4. Click OK in the Junk Mail Controls window.
  5. Click the "Address Book" icon on the toolbar.
  6. On the left side of the Address Book window, choose the item that was listed in step #3.
  7. Click the "New Card" icon on the toolbar.
  8. In the Display Name box, enter "AVDC Executive Director". In the "Email" box, enter "execsec@avdc.org".
  9. Click OK, then close the Address Book window.

Windows Mail (included in Windows Vista)

  1. On the "Tools" menu, choose "Junk E-mail Options..."
  2. Click the "Safe Senders" tab.
  3. Click the "Add..." button.
  4. Type "execsec@avdc.org" in the box, then click OK.
  5. Click OK in the Junk E-mail Options window.

Eudora

  1. From the "Tools" menu, choose "Options".
  2. Scroll down and click the "Junk Mail" icon. The Junk Mail options window apears.
  3. Select "Junk & Address Books".
  4. Check "Mail isn't junk if the sender is in an address book".
  5. Click OK to the Junk Mailbox window.
  6. Click the Address Book icon and add "execsec@avdc.org" to your address book.

AOL

AOL does not have a specific feature to ensure that DMS mail gets through. However, you should add "execsec@avdc.org" to your address book, which will help to make sure you properly receive DMS messages.
